April 5, 2011 - Shopping for the best gaming netbook? Let me offer up a few netbook buying guide tips as it relates to gaming netbook computers.
Tip #1: Be realistic. You may not be playing 2011 games, but you can go back a year or two or three and play those PC games and get good if not great results.
Tip #2: Most netbooks ship with 1GB of RAM. Upgrade to 2GB of RAM and you will have a better experience.
Tip #3: You want a netbook with Atom CPU + Nvidia ION or AMD CPU + ATI Radeon. There are some more AMD netbooks on the market which we are about to review for you here. They are a valid gaming netbook option.

July 2010 - Time to get excited because Alienware is stepping up with some Intel Core i7 netbooks. It's going to be 11 inches and will feature a Core 2 Duo processor. Don't worry, there will be i3 and i5 versions available also. Coming this summer! Expect to see these gaming netbooks feature Nvidia Optimus technology which will automatically switch between GPU's depending on your computing needs. Simply said, Optimus will maximize your battery life. Unlike your basic netbooks, these Alienware 11" netbooks will not be cheap!
January 2010 - Gamers dreams have been answered! The Asus 1201N is a 12 inch netbook with dual core Atom processor and the all important ION graphics processor unit from Nvidia. You get a full size keyboard and HDMI out, Window 7 Premium and other goodies. Not the cheapest netbook, but you wanted a small portable that can game? This is the one.

The day has come for you to consider buying a netbook. I've been there. You may have heard mixed reviews about gaming on a netbook. Perhaps you already have a netbook and want to do some netbook gaming. Netbooks are new so you may have trouble finding information about a gaming netbook or netbook gaming. Correct? We're here to help you out!
I'm a gamer. Nothing is worse than getting a game and finding that the game lags bad and your hardware can't handle it. I'm going to be able to help you with your netbook gaming needs. As a gamer considering a netbook, you should be excited about Nvidia's ION graphics processors. See the hand above, that's the ION technology for you. A full list of ION netbooks upcoming!
It's late 2009. The Atom processor and current netbooks are not exactly graphically endowed. In other words, you aren't going to be fragging on the latest and greatest FPS games. However, don't kid yourself. There is some great netbook gaming to be had. You just need to know that sweet spot. What do I mean by that?
I mean, like you previous experiences with your tower PC and gaming on that. I'm sure there are a lot of new games that your home rig can't handle. What's important with netbook gaming, is to consider the game requirements or the game minimum requirements. We all know gaming hardware minimum requirements are basically a joke. If you meet the min, you will have a crappy gaming experience. You generally need more than what the package is advertising that's for sure. Yes, you can dial down all the options, but why play an ugly game?
The point here is, there is a sweet spot. It's the point in time when the new hot games met the specs of the netbooks of today. That means, we need to go back a few years. How many? Stay tuned. I want to research this and give you solid advice here folks. I need to learn a bit also. Having said that, in that sweet spot, those games released during that time, will play great on your netbook. Netbook gaming will be fun, so long as you realize the limitations. Don't think of what the game min specs are, just consider what year the game was released. I will play it safe probably by about year, just to be safe.
So, we may be going back to say, 2002 games for the PC. That's a stretch of course, and I will have the safe release dates for you. Netbook gaming is going to let you experience some of the classic games of the past that you may never have had a chance to play. It will open up the door for some great gaming.
You also may be shopping for a gaming netbook. Well, you will be happy with the next generation of netbooks. With graphics in mind, you are going to see better graphic capable processors very very soon. That means many doors will open for netbook gaming!

Gaming Netbook What is the #1 gaming netbook on the market right now? As of June 2011, the best gaming netbook is the 11.6 netbook m11x R3 from Alienware. It's the best premium netbook in the 11.6 inch category. What it lacks in portability it makes up for in raw gaming power. It's a beast. It's not as light as standard netbooks, but you wanted a gaming netbook and Alienware delivered for you. Can I play the most recent games on a gaming netbook? You must be realistic in terms of gaming on a netbook. The standard gaming netbook models that are cheap will give you decent gaming on recent games, but not intensive FPS that are current or new. The Alienware m11x can handle anything you throw at it, but for your typical Atom or AMD powered gaming netbook, your expectations need to be lowered. We will expand which gaming netbook can handle what type of games to give you a better idea of what is possible. Like I always say, there are some real PC treasures of games from the past 5 years that are amazing. There is nothing wrong with playing slightly older games. Those games are still amazing. Older games are great also because they are less expensive to buy and install. Play some older PC FPS games and you can crank up the details in full which is a nice bonus in my opinion. What kind of battery life can you get from a netbook? For the most part, gaming netbooks can get 5-8 hours of battery life. Ultimately if you crank up the screen brightness to full or near full, you're going to get 4-5 hours. What you really want to look for is Nvidia Optimus Technoloy in the netbook. If it's a current netbook and it has Nvidia graphics, then it does have Optimus almost certainly. More details in following gaming netbook faq. What is Nvidia Optimus technology? Optimus is a power saving technology that Nivida incorporates on its latest graphics processing units. Nvidia Optimus in on all the 2011 netbooks that have Nvidia GPU's. Please note that the 10.1" Asus Netbook model 1015PN has Nvidia graphics but because it comes with Windows 7 Starter, the Optimus is locked. If you upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium edition it will enable Nvidia Optimus on the Eee PC 1015PN. It's confusing but it's an important note.
