Netbook vs. Notebook. And the winner is?

cheap netbooks canadaUpdate - It's interesting what has happened over the past year. There has been an emergence of 11 inch and 12 inch..... what? Netbook or notebook are these? I argue, and will continue to argue that these 11 inch and 12 inch notebooks are correctly to be called netbooks and not notebooks.

So does netbook only mean one dimensional? Does notebook mean anything so long as it's "powerful" and is a laptop?

Fact is there is no real right or wrong answer to netbook vs notebook. Is one better than the other? If you want to spend more money, then notebook sure. But really the netbook vs notebook debate comes down to what definition you want to use for each category.

I think of it this way. Netbook is a secondary notebook. It's not primary for a reason. The reason quite simply is the screensize. So to me, the screensize is what makes a netbook and netbook and a notebook a notebook. To me notebook / laptop was the term for portable computer but now it's the netbook which redefined the usage of a notebook.

So the debate about netbook vs notebook is more a matter of choice or need. A netbook can give you enough power for most situation. You can get premium netbooks in the 11 inch and 12 inch size that are feature packed. Those are still secondary notebooks because nobody in most situations is going to use that size screen as their primary home computer. I'm sure most people have 15 inch or larger screen computers at home.

I think this netbook photo sums up the argument the best. Netbook computers are simply the better option for most people. If you are currently shopping notebooks, you must have seen these smaller computers called netbooks. The netbook is becoming more and more common. You've seen netbooks in more public places. I'm sure you inquired about them because they are likely in the same section of your local computer store. Asus netbook computers are a big seller right now. Close behind is the Acer netbook.

The fact is, when you've used a netbook, you won't likely want to return to your laptop computer. You likely will ask yourself why you have lugged around such a large and heavy piece of hardware for all this time. Think about it. Netbooks are less bun and more meat. The keyboards are now equal to what notebooks offer, especially with the Asus netbook. Notice that there isn't a lot of extra space wasted for the sake of a palm rest. Mobility is why people look at notebooks. Now you have the option of buying netbooks. The only real edge that notebooks have is with regards to speed and dvd drives. That is about to change. The 1004DN Asus netbook will be the first with an optical drive. This will further the expansion of the netbook global market domination.

If you consider what technology is, and how technology works, then you will realize the movement to netbooks is inevitable. Remeber laughing at those photos of the first computers? They needed a fork lift to move them! Now look at computers. Many other tech related devices all have the same history. They all started off big, and have gradually become smaller and smaller. Why would mobile computers be any different? The fact is netbooks are the next generation. I'm already looking at tv commercials featuring notebooks and smirking. Why? It's because I see a huge piece of mobile hardware being advertised. I see people looking back at these images and commercials and laughing. You will be saying the same thing as when you see those old photos of the first computers.

Sorry notebooks fan, there is a new sheriff in town. The almighty netbook has arrived and it's time for the museum. The netbook is the new portable computer.
